Fifth Annual American Akaushi Association Convention
Set October 28 - 30, 2016 in Lubbock, Texas

The 2016 American Akaushi Association Convention is set for October 28-30 at the Overton Hotel and Conference Center in Lubbock, Texas. This year with the theme of “Akaushi Savvy”, everyone in attendance will leave with more information and tools necessary to begin, continue, or expand on the increased popularity of the breed and Certified Akaushi Beef.

Bubba Bain, Executive Director of the American Akaushi Association said, “We have planned for all in attendance to be offered first-hand knowledge about Akaushi in the feedlot and at the packer through an intensive tour. Plus, we have gathered some of the industry’s top voices to speak on a variety of topics essential to anyone in the Beef business.”

The 2016 American Akaushi Association Bus Tour is planned for October 28 with two scheduled stops at Bovina Feeders and Caviness Beef Packers. Both of these entities are well versed with Akaushi and can provide detailed experiences of feeding and processing.

Industry voices on October 29 will include John Steinmetz - President of Vista Bank giving the convention welcome;  Colin Woodall - Government Affairs, NCBA; Jaclyn Wilson - Flying Diamond Genetics, Nebraska;  Dr. Stephen Smith - Texas A&M University; Dr. Nevil Speer - AgriClear; Dr. John Paterson - Neogen/GeneSeek and Dr. John Michael Riley - Oklahoma State University.

The always popular panel discussion will once again be moderated by Bill Fielding - CEO of HeartBrand Beef. Joining Fielding on the panel this year is Dr. Ty Lawrence - West Texas A&M; Dr. Brad Johnson - Texas Tech and Phil Davis - Bar O Ranch, Idaho.

Following the day of speakers will be the annual banquet where Ross Wilson, President and CEO of Texas Cattle Feeders Association, will provide the evening’s keynote message.

During the annual banquet, the 2016 “Securing the Legacy” Award, will be the presented. This unique award is given to the individual, family or ranch, that has provided key leadership and marketing efforts for American Akaushi.  The 2015 recipient of the “Securing the Legacy Award” was E Cross Cattle Company, Bay City, Texas.

The very first “Prime Plus” award was presented in 2015.  This award highlights an individual or company that has been supportive of the Akaushi breed, American Akaushi Association, promotes Beef in a positive manner, and actively markets Beef as HeartBrand or Certified Akaushi Beef. The first and well deserved recipient of this award was The Burger Monger hamburger restaurants, owned by Jake Hickton and Bob Slane. Burger Monger only serves Certified Akaushi Beef to their customers in their multiple locations.

“Without question, our conventions literally have something for everyone of any age to enjoy.  This year participants should leave relaxed, refreshed, inspired and loaded with “Akaushi Savvy” to utilize in today's Beef industry, "Bain said.

Other convention activities will include local sightseeing, Trade Show, Taste of Akaushi Dining, Fun Auction and Country Church with Pastor Jerry Stewart of Lone Star Cowboy Church.

“The message of“Nature’s Healthy Beef” is growing. Akaushi beef includes the inherent oleic acid and higher ratio of monounsaturated to saturated fat which is in demand by today’s health conscious consumer. The American Akaushi is a proven model for higher grading quality carcasses with increased profit potential in the Beef business,” Bain said.
